Haida Gwaii Accessibility Committee
On May 24, 2024, the Board of the North Coast Regional District adopted the NCRD Accessibility Plan. This plan will be reviewed and updated at least once every three years in accordance with the Accessible British Columbia Act.
The Haida Gwaii Accessibility Committee, established in the Fall of 2023, has been working towards the development of municipal Accessibility Plans on Haida Gwaii.
The Committee consists of Haida Gwaii community representatives as well as representatives from the North Coast Regional District, the Village of Masset, the Village of Daajing Giids, and the Village of Port Clements:

Haida Gwaii Accessibility Plan - Actions
On April 3, 2024, the Haida Gwaii Accessibility Committee adopted its Haida Gwaii Accessibility Committee - Actions document. This document includes information on the accessibility plans of Haida Gwaii and for the North Coast Regional District in a solutions-based form.
Between Friday, January 26, 2024 and Friday, February 16, 2024, the Haida Gwaii Accessibility Committee sought community input towards its Haida Gwaii Accessibility Plan - Actions document. The Actions are compiled under the following accessibility categories:
- Employment;
- Delivery of Service;
- The Built Environment;
- Information and Communications;
- Transportation; and
- Procurement.
Accessibility Resources
- The NCRD's Business Facade Improvement program is accepting applications to its 2024 program until September 30, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. Under the Business Facade Improvement program, the NCRD will provide a one time 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum of $5,000 per building/project to improve the facades of a commercial building located in Electoral Areas A, C, D, or E. Eligible facade improvements include accessibility improvements. Please note that funding is provided by way of grant funding from Northern Development Initiative Trust's Business Facade Improvement program.
- The Village of Masset's Business Facade Improvement program will be accepting applications to its 2024 program starting April 1, 2024 until May 31, 2024. Under the Business Facade Improvement program, the Village of Masset will provide a one time 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum of $5,000 per building/project to improve the facades of a commercial building located in the Village of Masset. Eligible facade improvements include accessibility improvements. Please note that funding is provided by way of grant funding from Northern Development Initiative Trust's Business Facade Improvement program.
- The NCRD Accessibility Feedback Form is a tool used by the Regional District to collect feedback from residents on the accessibility NCRD employment, delivery of service, the built environment, information and communications, transportation, and procurement.
