Village of Masset Recycling Depot Opening August 13, 2021

In 2020, the North Coast Regional District (NCRD) began planning activities to minimize health and safety risk to our employees and the public while providing recycling services on Haida Gwaii. As part of this planning the NCRD worked collaboratively with the Province of B.C., WorkSafeBC, stewardship program providers and our employees to carefully review and modify the recycling operations of the Island Solid Waste department to ensure compliance with provincial health orders and stewardship programs, and to ensure continued safety of our employees and the general public.

In 2020, the following recycling services were reorganized and remain in effect today:

  • Village of Queen Charlotte Recycling Depot: The depot is open Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of each week from 10:00AM to 4:00PM.
  • Port Clements Landfill & Recycling Depot: The depot is open Tuesday – Saturday of each week from 9:00AM to 3:00PM.
  • The recycling transfer stations on Haida Gwaii remain closed.

In addition to the above facility locations, the NCRD is opening a new recycling facility location in the Village of Masset, which will provide consistent and reliable access to recycling services to NCRD residents in northern Haida Gwaii. The facility will be open to the public commencing August 13, 2021.

The Masset Recycling depot is located at 1730 Hodges Road in the Greater Massett Development Corporation building. The Masset Recycling depot hours will be as follows:

  • Thursdays: 9:00AM to 3:30PM
  • Fridays: 9:00AM to 3:30PM
  • Saturdays: 9:00AM to 3:30PM

The NCRD will be accepting residential recyclable materials at the Masset Recycling depot. We are asking the public to be patient as we adjust staffing and storage levels to meet service demands of the new facility.  With this in mind, please be mindful of the amount of materials brought for drop-off in any given trip.

The NCRD is also undertaking a comprehensive review of waste management services in the NCRD through the regional Solid Waste Management Plan update project. The NCRD encourages regional stakeholders and members of the public that wish to be involved in this planning process to please visit our website for further information on how to get involved.

If you have any questions with respect to the opening of the Masset Recycling depot please contact the Island Solid Waste department by telephone at 1-888-557-9339 or by email at
